What is Lawn Mower Racing?
The the names of the sport cause many to smile and maybe chuckle. We are asked constantly "You race lawnmowers ?". The truth is.. yes we do race lawnmowers. As much as they resemble what people cut their grass with, that is where the similarities end.
The rules for lawn mower racing requires the use of a frame, fenders and drive train that would be found on any mas production lawn mower. What we do to those pieces could be said to be like magic.
They are modified and tuned to the limits of the class they are being built for. They use technology from Go Kart racing and Stock car racing to create a fast and safe racing vehicle.
Races are usually on a circle track under 1/8 mile in length. Driving side by side and multiple passing creates exciting racing for all ages to enjoy.
The racers who participate in this sport
Mower racing has grown in popularity over the past 15 years for many reasons. Racers found it a inexpensive alternative to racing over the large expense of stock and other forms of circle track racing. The investment made in building a tractor verses allowed racers the opportunity to attend more venues, drive larger distance and spend less time on repairs over the their automotive counterpart. Even though the vehicles are small, the performance potential of mower racing gives much of the same feedback and excitement of auto racing at a greatly reduce cost to the race team.
Racers involve people from all types of careers. Although seen as a grass root country boy sport, many race team are based in urban centers.

Venues enjoy the same excitement that these smaller vehicles can bring to their guests without the large cost of building a permanent track. Many venues create a track in a field and within days of the events completion it is hard to tell a race has ever been there. The speed, close racing and extreme performance draws many visitors to the races with a large return for the venue in the form of gate income.
People who attend Lawn Mower Racing
Many of the venues that PMG will be attend will include fall fairs and annual country festivals. These events draw thousands of people and also the attention of local media.
Racing fans are very loyal to the sponsors of racers. If one was to look to the stands of an event, multiple logos of racing sponsors would be seen in the form of shirts, hats, drinks purchased and vehicles driven.

racing is know as a pit accessible sport. Many racers will speak
opening and candid about their racing vehicle and their sponsors. Some
racers will even allow children to climb on the racer for a picture and
have pictures for the children to take home with them.
Many races are held at fairs, car shows, and at permanent racing facilities. Children from 5 and older participate in this racing sport and are viewed by thousands of fans every year.
